Dell Computers Gender Discrimination Class Action

The matter has been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties

General Electric Gender Discrimination Class Action

General Electric Company (“GE”) and Lorene Schaefer, formerly General Counsel of GE Transportation, announced that they have settled the lawsuit filed by Ms. Schaefer in May 2007. In connection with this settlement, Ms. Schaefer has dismissed her individual and alleged class gender discrimination claims against GE and is electing to pursue other opportunities. GE thanks Ms. Schaefer for the valuable services and dedicated professionalism she demonstrated during her employment with GE.  Ms. Schaefer has many friends at GE, and they will miss working with her.

During their settlement discussions, GE and Ms. Schaefer along with Kim Conklin, Margaret Harding and Jeana Quintana, reviewed policies and practices that are effective in building and sustaining an inclusive culture. These discussions will contribute to GE’s programs focused on developing women in its executive ranks.  GE is appreciative that Ms. Schaefer was willing to resolve her dispute and work with GE to benefit the company and its employees. Ms. Schaefer thanks GE for its willingness to engage in these constructive discussions and further support of progressive employment practices. GE remains committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all of its employees.

The terms of the settlement are confidential, and the parties will have no further comment.

Lan v. Erie Family Life et al. Settlement

The United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania approved the $5.234 million Settlement of the Erie Family Life class action by Memorandum Opinion dated March 21, 2008, and by Order and Final Judgment dated March 27, 2008.  The Settlement became effective on April 28, 2008.  Distributions to shareholders in an amount slightly in excess of $1.82 per share should begin by mid-May, 2008. 

No claim form is required to receive distributions.  However, distribution checks must be cashed within 180 days of the issue date on the check.  Checks not negotiated within 180 days will be cancelled, and the distribution amounts will instead be paid to a designated charity in accordance with the governing Stipulation of Settlement.
