Deborah Marcuse

Deborah Marcuse is an Associate in the Washington D.C. office of Sanford Wittels & Heisler, LLP.

Ms. Marcuse represents individuals in discrimination and general civil rights matters, and whistleblowers in qui tam matters. Ms. Marcuse currently represents eleven women in a sexual harassment suit against an employer in the entertainment and hospitality business. She also represents whistleblowers who alerted the Department of Justice to fraud involving off-label use of medical devices that may endanger the American public. Ms. Marcuse and her confidential clients continue to assist the Department of Justice in the investigation and prosecution of these and other matters involving fraud.

Before joining SWH in September 2009, Ms. Marcuse was an Arthur Liman Public Interest Fellow, serving as the founding Coordinator of the City of New Haven's Prison Reentry Initiative. As Coordinator, Ms. Marcuse helped to pass a municipal ordinance banning unfair discrimination against job applicants with conviction histories by the City and its vendors.

During her time in law school, Ms. Marcuse served as a Student Director for the Prison Legal Services Clinic, representing clients in civil rights, habeas and immigration proceedings. She also served as co-chair of the Student Alliance for Military Equality and assisted victims of domestic violence through the Temporary Restraining Order Project. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Marcuse was awarded the Francis Wayland Prize for greatest proficiency in preparing and presenting a case in negotiation, arbitration, and litigation.

Ms. Marcuse is practicing under the supervision of David Sanford, a member of the DC bar, while her application to the DC bar is pending.
