Thomas J. Henderson

Thomas J. Henderson is Of Counsel to Sanford Wittels & Heisler, LLP, in the Washington, DC Office.

Mr. Henderson has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of class action and complex litigation across the country. He has litigated class action and individual employment, housing, consumer, environmental, education, voting and other cases, and has briefed and argued appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court, numerous U.S. Courts of Appeal and in state supreme and intermediate appellate courts. He received his law degree and served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law.

Mr. Henderson also practices as the principal of the Henderson Law Firm. Before associating with Sanford, Wittels & Heisler, he was a Salaried Partner and later Of Counsel with Sprenger & Lang, PLLC, in Washington, D.C., from 2004 to 2008. Before reentering private practice, from 1990 to 2004, Mr. Henderson served as Chief Counsel and Senior Deputy Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a national civil rights public interest law firm in Washington, DC. Prior to moving to Washington, Mr. Henderson was the founder and principal of his own firm in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1983 to 1990. He also began his career in Pittsburgh as an attorney and litigation specialist for Neighborhood Legal Services Assn. from 1977 to 1983.

Mr. Henderson is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Employee Rights Advocacy Institute for Law & Policy and the Institute for Inclusion, and is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association and its Center for Professional Responsibility, the Equal Justice Society and the American Constitution Society.
