Stefanie F. Roemer is a Senior Litigation Counsel in the Washington D.C. office of Sanford Wittels & Heisler, LLP.
Ms. Roemer represents the interests of individuals in employment discrimination, medical malpractice and other civil and consumer rights matters. Ms. Roemer currently serves as lead counsel representing eleven African-Americans who were the victims of fraud and predatory-lending when purchasing their first homes in Washington DC. She also represents the District’s children in a class action against the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority, seeking monetary and injunctive relief for the cover-up of toxic lead levels that contaminated the District’s water supply from 2001-2004.
Before joining SWH in 2004, Ms. Roemer represented plaintiffs in large securities class-actions cases across the country as a litigation associate at Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld & Toll, PLLC. Ms. Roemer also served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia for four and a half years. There, Ms. Roemer was responsible for handling all phases of criminal prosecution on behalf of the United States government in the D.C. Superior Court, the D.C. Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Before serving as Assistant United States Attorney, Ms. Roemer worked as a litigation associate at Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.
Ms. Roemer served as a law clerk to the Honorable John Garrett Penn, Chief Judge of the District Court for the District of Columbia, as law clerk to the Honorable Judge Loren A. Smith, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, and as an intern for the United States House of Representatives, the United States Department of Justice, the United States Department of Treasury, and the Public Defender's Office.
